If there is such thing as a DJ Hall of Fame, this guy is a shoo-in. Regardless of whether he invented "mash-up" style, he sure as hell perfected it. Did you ever imagine a DJ could mix AC/DC, Notorious BIG, Blondie and Black Eyed Peas into one flawless party jam? Well DJ AM did. And people love it.

DJ Homicide
DJ Homicide has mixed and mashed his way from the ranks of Sugar Ray to the turntables at some of the country’s most notorious nightspots, such as Pure, Body English, Tao, Mansion and, of course, at Reserve in his regular Thursday night rotation.

Hot Seat With DJ Homicide: Q & A

RESERVE: It’s safe to say that you and DJ AM are at the forefront of a movement in the world of deejaying and entertainment. What do you guys have up your sleeves next?
DJ HOMICIDE: Right now I'm working on a nationwide tour with DJ Sizzahandz from Crooklyn Clan. We plan to do venues on four turntables this summer with production and I have a clothing line company called DYRT that I'm launching this summer as well. I don't know what DJ AM's doing, he's already gone above and beyond what any of us could every dream of as club DJs.
What’s life like on the road?
Life on the road is amazing. You meet great people, you see the greatest cities and throw the most amazing parties nationwide. What a life, right?

What’s your favorite place to spin?
Club Reserve in Chicago... Hands down.

What tunes do you jam out to in your car?
I listen to all types of music. Right now there is some real dope Electro out. I've been killin' that.

Are there any future Sugar Ray projects in the works?
Sugar Ray will also be doing shows this summer in the States as well as in Japan.

Who can bench-press more: Mark McGrath or DJ AM?
Mark will run circles around DJ AM in anything "physical." Mark is a born'n'bred athlete . He stays in shape.

You seem to have a firm grasp on keeping the party jumping while playing a perfect balance of hip-hop, rap and rock n’ roll. Where did you get such a wealth of musical knowledge?
I grew up around all types of people. My mother is a musician, I was exposed to every genre at an early age so I grew to appreciate every genre.

What's the essential DJ Homicide mix that gets the party started?
I would have to say... Be Beautiful made by the Crooklyn Clan. It is 100% effective in every club. People hear that record and automatically know there's a real party happening.

DJ Kevin Scott

At first glance, skeptics may say AM-entourage-member Kevin Scott is just another guy using other people's melody to enhance his own beats. However, once they give him a listen, they'll realize a couple of things. First of all, his beats are what make other people's melodies increasingly enjoyable.

If you don't dig a song you hear on the radio, see if DJ Kevin Scott has given it his treatment yet, because he positively will change your mind. Secondly, Kevin's nuanced groove proves there's room for more than one mash-up specialist in today's scene.

Unlike most table jockeys, DJ Kevin Scott is a damn good businessman as well, founding and producing Direct Music Services, the one-stop shopping hub for DJs that's produced and distributed over 150 compilation albums to date. This is pretty impressive for a guy who spends his nights spinning for some of Hollywood's most exclusive Red Carpet events.

On April 12, Kevin will be taking a break from his nationwide residencies at LAX, Fluid, The Park Ultra Lounge, and Voodoo Lounge to treat us at Reserve. If you don't come, your mother may stop loving you.

Steve Aoki aka Kid Millionaire
Damn, I'd probably be a millionaire kid too if I knew how to make emo and pop tunes so damn danceable. Nevertheless, Aoki is proof positive that there's a million different approaches to selling people on the "mash-up revolution." Not only is Steve an Asian guy who can pull off long hair, one look at his site or his MySpace page clearly shows that his life is more fun than yours.

When he's not behind his tables, he's running one of the hottest record labels in the country, Dim Mak. Already home to Bloc Party, the Kills, and Moving Unites, Dim Mak Records has recently signed next year's "cool band to like," The Willowz. If this doesn't land Steve the world domination he's been looking for, his tour stops in the US, UK, and

Japan

will certainly take care of it.

Winner of the 2005 award for best hip hop station on Live365.com, during which time he was producing two weekly subscription podcasts for iRiver and AudioFeast.

Records and releases music for his group Move.meant on his own Wax Paper Records while also touring and performing with them at every show

His songs have appeared on network TV shows, major and independent films, and commercials, such as the Oscar-nominated Crash (Lions Gate Films) , Joan of Arcadia (CBS), Bones (FOX), The Real World (MTV), Thru the Lens (A&E), and Shards (2004)

He is also half of a 2x4 DJ duo with partner DJ Steve1der. They are the 2nd place winners in the Scion Free Up Your Mix 2005 contest & the Los Angeles regional winners of the contest. They won the 2006 Scion Rock/Hip hop Mixtape contest as well.

When DJ Spider comes to Reserve, he brings not only award-winning skills to the decks, but also a special guest: Ravidrums (WWW.RAVIDRUMS.COM). To see it is to believe it. Ravidrums does just what his name suggests; he drums hard and loud. He follows and guides the beat sending the party into frenzy around his elaborate setup of some dozen or so drums carefully arranged with cymbals, snares and bongos galore. And don’t forget the cowbell.

DJ Fashen
Working his way up the ranks straight into the big time, DJ Fashen is the new Next on the Decks champ. Fashen is the new hip-hop prodigy in the DJ World and was voted Phoenix’s Best of Hip-Hop 2005. Since then, he has been making waves nationwide. Come check him out April 19th.

MEET THE PRESS

Editor/Writer : Michael Mering (Bartender/Manager). When Michael Mering joined the Reserve team in October 2004, he was new to “the industry.” His previous hospitality experience included working banquets, bartending on yachts and waiting tables. The nightclub scene proved to be his for the taking as he quickly worked his way into a bartending/management position. Mering’s bartending style is best described as Cocktail-esque (think Tom Cruise minus the Scientology). Mering is well-known for his signature margarita (the Mach 3) and his deft maneuvering with a muddler. He grew up in Marquette, Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University in 2002.

Editor/Writer : Michael Raspatello (Promotional Consultant). After graduating from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Raspatello thought life would be all downhill. But he soon learned upon moving back to his native Chicago that wherever there's booze and scarlet women, there's fun to be had. So after founding Rivalfish, and gaining nothing but sordid notoriety for his online magazine, The Rival Room (www.rivalfish.com/rivalroom), Raspatello was honored to be offered a position on the Reserve promotional team. He was consequently bribed into writing for this newsletter. The bribery involved a complimentary bar tab and a gorgeous waitress. Raspatello was immediately sold on the idea.
